Internet Nights
So far we have held a few internet nights in the bookshop. They have been well received and a small group of regulars is building.
They are aimed at people with a little computer knowledge, but complete beginners will still find the information useful and, should there be enough demand on the night, we can arrange for subsequent beginner's lessons. We will answer questions from the group or else find information online.
We hope to demonstrate some of the useful and entertaining aspects of the internet and inspire people who are daunted by it all.
We intend to cover popular sites such as ebay and facebook as well as forums, answer sites, downloads and more. The night's events will in part be dictated by the group, so, if you sign up, mention your interests and we'll see what we can do.
The workshops are based around one computer, projected onto a screen. This means you will learn the concepts and information quickly without having to worry about controlling the mouse and typing etc. It seems to work, as everyone is free to take notes and discuss issues within the group.
Our method means you are more likely to absorb the basics without being daunted and at the same time you will witness the capabilities of the internet and not just stick to what you know. There should be other attendees who are at your level.
We hope to inspire you enough to want to learn the basics. Most websites are now very user-friendly and people are suddenly realising the massive capabilities of the internet. Most people who have learned the basics, and just a fraction of these capabilities could not now live without the internet. This is particularly true for older users and those with reduced mobility.
Each session costs £5. Tea and coffee is provided but you are welcome to bring food or wine etc to share with the group. A pen and notebook would also be advised.
There are plans for a more structured course of sessions, so people can pick and choose relevant workshops (eg. Buying Online, Email or Ebay Selling). These details will be posted here as and when.
